Practices
Founded by former United States Attorney General Griffin Bell, our Special Matters team exclusively focuses on white-collar criminal defense, civil and regulatory investigations, corporate internal investigations, and investigations before the U.S. Congress. The team includes more than 40 former federal prosecutors and other government enforcement officials, as well as lawyers who have devoted their careers to white-collar criminal defense in high-stakes matters with industry-wide impact.
Clients turn to us because of our reputation for conducting thorough and reliable internal investigations, using the investigative record effectively to persuade the government to appropriately decline prosecution or enforcement action against our clients where possible, and discreetly resolving government investigations on favorable terms for our clients. When these results are not possible, we are prepared to defend our clients in court – where we have a successful track record advocating and litigating against the government and other authorities on behalf of our clients.
Our Special Matters team has handled investigations before 73 of the 93 U.S. Attorney’s Offices and every litigating division of the Justice Department. We likewise have appeared before the SEC in all 12 of its offices and represented clients in all of the SEC’s specialized enforcement units. Having conducted cross-border investigations on every continent including Antarctica, we have extensive experience before foreign regulatory authorities as well.
Most importantly, clients value our transparency, candor, and ability to build relationships with enforcement officials and co-counsel in order to protect and advance our clients’ interests.
