24th Annual Health Law and Policy Forum


A one-day conference focusing on the latest developments in the healthcare and life sciences industry, organized and hosted by King & Spalding.

Keynote Speaker:

United States Senator Johnny Isakson is a businessman who has built a respected record of public service. Senator Isakson is a member of two key Senate committees with jurisdiction over the nation's health care the Senate Committee on Finance, which has jurisdiction over taxes, trade, Medicare and Social Security, and the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions. He is also a member of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, and he is the only Senator to chair two committees in the 114th Congress: the Senate Committee on Veterans' Affairs and the Senate Select Committee on Ethics. As a business leader, Johnny Isakson served as president of Northside Realty for 20 years, as it grew into the largest independent residential real estate brokerage company in the Southeast and one of the largest in America. As a public servant, Senator Isakson previously served for 17 years in the Georgia Legislature and two years as the chairman of the Georgia Board of Education. He then served three terms in the U.S. House and is now serving his second term in the U.S. Senate.

Forum Sessions will include:

Kathy Pitts, Executive Director with Ernst & Young’s National Exempt Organization Tax Services practice, and Connie Dotzenrod of King & Spalding will discuss the new final regulations under § 501(r) of the Internal Revenue Code applicable to tax-exempt hospitals.

Erin C. Fuse Brown, Assistant Professor of Law at Georgia State University’s College of Law, and Tom Hawk, Merritt McAlister and Allison Kassir of King & Spalding will discuss the potential implications and fallout of the King v. Burwell case and challenges to ACA subsidies.

Norm Armstrong, Jeff Spigel and John Carroll of King & Spalding will discuss the FTC's increased enforcement activity with respect to hospital mergers and hospital-physician integration.

Steve Eaton, Co-Founder and Managing Director of EDG Partners, Christie Corbett, Senior Managing Director at FTI Consulting, and Paul Quirós of King & Spalding will discuss private equity investment in healthcare providers, suppliers and other life sciences companies.

Paul B. Murphy and Michael Paulhus of King & Spalding will discuss the government's enforcement priorities and increased enforcement activity by both the government and whistleblowers.

Michael Newell, President of Southwest Consulting Associates, and Mark Polston and Dan Hettich of King & Spalding will provide an update on changes to Medicare hospital reimbursement.
