King & Spalding obtained a significant civil rights victory on behalf of a transgender client who was denied an unopposed petition to change his legal name.  A panel of the Georgia Court of Appeals unanimously reversed the Columbia County, Georgia decision and ordered the lower court to grant the name-change petition. Merritt McAlister and Sedric Bailey led the charge in the Georgia Court of Appeals on behalf of their client, in partnership with Lambda Legal, a nationwide LGBT civil rights organization.
