People

Kota Ito (qualified as Japanese attorney-at-law) is a senior associate in our Tokyo office. Kota focuses on project development, financing, monitoring of, and M&A / strategic investments in, renewable energy projects in solar power, onshore and offshore wind power, and biomass power around Japan and globally. Kota has also advised on low-carbon hydrogen and ammonia projects. Kota has experience representing both sponsors, investors, business operators and lenders. 

In his time as a senior associate at a leading Japanese law firm, Kota dealt with a multitude of project development and financing and M&A transactions of renewable energy projects and other structured financing projects, including transactions in the real estate and infrastructure sectors under the Japan’s private finance initiative (PFI).

Kota was previously seconded to Development Bank of Japan Inc. (DBJ), and through his secondment, Kota worked on numerous renewable power transactions, oil & gas projects and international energy projects.

Furthermore, Kota was also previously seconded to Securities and Exchange Surveillance Commission (SESC) and Financial Services Agency (FSA) in Japan and primarily dealt with anti-money laundering and combating the financing of terrorism (AMT/CFT) and other financial regulations relating to financial instruments business operators (FIBOs) and banks from the Japanese administrative authority side.

Kota is qualified as a Japanese lawyer (bengoshi). He is a member of Dai-Ichi Tokyo Bar Association of Japan and a conference representative of Chamber of Commerce in Waseda University Alumni Association. He is fluent in both English and Japanese.
