Dirk is an Associate in the Technology Transactions and Sourcing/Commercial Transactions Groups within King & Spalding’s Corporate, Finance and Investments practice. Dirk advises clients on technology transactions and transactional intellectual property matters, with a focus on software licensing, sourcing, and complex commercial contracts.
Dirk regularly assists clients with intellectual property protection and commercialization strategies, and counsel clients on value-added reseller, platform integration, software- and platform-as-a-service agreements, and complex commercial contracts in the fintech, machine learning, logistics, robotics, healthcare, financial services, cybersecurity, retail, and entertainment industries.
He also maintains an active pro bono practice, and has represented nonprofit organizations in intellectual property and commercial matters, individuals seeking political asylum, military service members in guardianship proceedings, consumers alleging fraudulent business practices and individuals seeking to secure rights for animals. He partnered with a large hospital system to provide cancer patients with advanced medical directives, including living wills and powers of attorney, and created the Little Lawyers Literacy Program, which works to improve reading outcomes for elementary students in the greater Charlotte, NC area.
Dirk currently sits on the Board of Advisors for the Wake Forest Journal of Business & Intellectual Property, chairs the Board of Advisors for the Virginia Competes arm of Equality Virginia, and is a Board member of the Virginia Repertory Theatre.
