King & Spalding is sponsoring a forum on Feb. 18 in Dubai in collaboration with the MENA Private Equity Association and King Abdullah University of Science and Technology. This forum, called the Venture Capital Working Group, aims to identify major regulatory challenges faced by startups and venture capital investors and managers in the region; to discuss the complexity and the risk of structuring venture capital funds and deals in certain Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) jurisdictions; to identify what is needed to increase investors’ appetites for the asset class (internationally and domestically); to discuss the adoption of industry best compatible with the regional VC ecosystem; and to promote the need for a MENA/GCC small-cap stock market. Dubai-based partner James Stull will co-chair this forum, which will be held at the Capital Club in Dubai International Financial Centre.
