Talk im Turm: Battery Storage as an Investment Opportunity for Existing Real Estate

Join us for the next event in our “Talk im Turm” series: Infrastructure Facilities: Battery Storage as an Investment Opportunity for Existing Real Estate. Our first event on the topic of battery storage received an overwhelming response—this high level of interest demonstrates just how relevant this forward-looking topic is for institutional investors and fund managers. Due to the high demand, we would like to delve deeper into the topic and shed light on another particularly exciting aspect: While our first event focused on large-scale battery storage projects on greenfield sites, this time we will focus on the integration of battery storage into existing real estate. This approach enables real estate funds to activate additional return levers within their existing portfolios—without having to acquire or lease additional land. In this context, battery storage can be used not only to sell electricity to on-site tenants but also, in particular, to participate in intraday trading to generate lucrative returns. This allows the potential of existing properties to be fully exploited while simultaneously participating in the growing energy storage market.

Together with QALITEC Solutions GmbH & Co. KG, an experienced provider of forward-looking energy and battery storage solutions, we will examine this topic from various perspectives. Our co-presenters from QALITEC will present battery storage projects from the perspective of a project developer and operator. They will present a detailed economic feasibility analysis and, using a case study, guide participants step-by-step through the implementation of such a project in an existing property. In addition, we will provide an overview of investment law, explaining how real estate funds can implement battery storage projects within their existing portfolios and which regulatory requirements must be observed. We will also examine the tax framework, which plays a decisive role in the integration of battery storage projects into existing fund structures.
