backThe new EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) will apply from 12 August 2026 and significantly tightens requirements for all companies manufacturing, importing, or distributing packaging in the EU. Beyond stricter material, chemical, recyclability, and labeling standards, the PPWR introduces extensive documentation, conformity assessment, registration, and reporting obligations, with non-compliance leading to substantial fines, sales bans, and enforcement actions. Packaging therefore becomes a core compliance issue and a competitive differentiator, requiring companies—particularly packaging producers—to review and adapt products, processes, and compliance structures well ahead of the effective date.
