Hervé Jouanjean has unparalleled experience in European and international affairs. During his EU career, Hervé handled several topics of strategic importance for the EU.

Hervé Jouanjean joined the European Commission in 1976. He was successively Head of Unit in the External Relations Department in charge of the External dimension of the Internal Market (1989–93); Deputy Head of the Permanent Delegation of the EU Commission in Geneva to the International Organizations (WTO and UN) (1993-1995); and Director of DG Trade in charge of WTO and OECD (1996–2003). Between 2003 and 2009, Hervé Jouanjean was deputy Director General in the European External Action Service, in charge of Asia (including China) and Latin America, and Deputy Secretary General of the Commission in charge of inter-institutional relations. Between 2009 and 2014, Hervé was appointed Director-General for budget and financial programming at the European Commission.

In May 2014, Hervé joined a major French law firm as Of Counsel. He was particularly in charge of European affairs. He successfully handled a number of high-profile cases (trade policy, internal market and financial matters) and provided strategic advice to companies facing complex issues combining technical and political dimensions. In addition, he was the leading expert on Brexit issues.

Hervé is currently Vice-Chairman of a French Think-Tank Confrontations Europe active on EU affairs. 

Hervé Jouanjean holds a diploma from the “Institut d'Etudes Politiques” (Science-Po Paris) in Economy and Finance, and holds a Master degree in Economy and a Master degree in International Relations from the University of Paris.  In addition to his native French, he speaks English and Spanish.
