King & Spalding Wins Three 2017 Benchmark Litigation Awards, Partner Richard T. Marooney Named General Commercial Lawyer of the Year


NEW YORK, Feb. 17, 2017 — King & Spalding was awarded three 2017 Benchmark Litigation awards, including the General Commercial Lawyer of the Year honor, given to partner Richard T. Marooney. The firm also received the Impact Case Award for its work on COMMISA v. Pemex and the Georgia Firm of the Year Award. The awards were announced at a ceremony in New York City yesterday.

Marooney is a New York-based partner and co-head of the firm’s Financial Institutions practice. He is an experienced trial lawyer who has tried cases before juries, judges and arbitration panels. His practice focuses on securities, general commercial and international disputes in the financial services, accounting and energy industries.

King & Spalding won an Impact Case Award for its work on COMMISA v. Pemex, in which theSecond Circuit Court of Appeals affirmed a judgment of over $465 million in favor of firm client Corporación Mexicana de Mantenimiento Integral, S. De R.L. De C.V. (COMMISA), a subsidiary of KBR, Inc. The judgment resulted from the Southern District of New York’s confirmation under the Panama Convention of an ICC arbitration award in favor of COMMISA. The arbitration, which occurred in Mexico, arose from a contract dispute between COMMISA and Pemex-Exploración y Producción, Mexico’s state-owned oil exploration and production company, in connection with the engineering, design and construction of off-shore oil platforms.
