backKing & Spalding defended Netflix and all other named defendants in a copyright infringement case filed in the Central District of California alleging that the hit series Raising Dion and the comic book on which it is based infringe a copyright held in the plaintiff's novel. The plaintiff alleged ten figures in damages.
The team filed a motion to dismiss on the grounds that the plaintiff's work and the alleged infringing works are not substantially similar as a matter of law.
On September 25, 2025, Judge John A. Kronstadt of the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California granted our motion to dismiss in full, with prejudice.
