backATLANTA, Oct. 5, 2016 — The Daily Report has named King & Spalding partner Harold Franklin, Jr., a finalist for its Attorney of the Year award.
Franklin, who is based in Atlanta and is a member of the firm’s tort and environmental group, is one of five finalists for the award, which honors individuals “who had the biggest impact on the Georgia legal community or most helped to advance the cause of justice during 2015.” The winner will be announced at a dinner on Nov. 9.
Last year, Franklin served as president of the Atlanta Bar Association, the largest volunteer Bar in the Southeastern United States. He was chosen as a finalist in recognition for his work establishing the Bar’s Equal Justice in Law Enforcement Initiative, which engages the legal community and key stakeholders (law enforcement, prosecutorial and defense bars, former offenders and the public) in a focused, collaborative effort to help prevent and lessen the prospect of law enforcement shootings involving non-violent, unarmed citizens. Franklin is a past president of the Gate City Bar Association, the oldest African-American bar association in the state of Georgia, and established the Gate City Justice Robert Benham Law Camp, which is designed to foster diversity in the legal profession by exposing local high school students to the study of the law.
He also serves on the national executive board of the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law and as regional vice chair for the organization. Franklin is a key leader of Georgia Election Protection, a non-partisan, pro bono initiative to help ensure the integrity of the electoral process and fair elections.
Franklin’s national litigation and trial practice focuses on complex and high-stakes product liability litigation and has also included business disputes and internal investigations. He has represented a number of the world’s largest automotive, pharmaceutical, beverage, tobacco and package delivery companies and has litigated and managed the defense of a multitude of matters throughout the continental United States and abroad in “bet-the-company” litigation.
