King & Spalding’s New York Personnel Lend a Hand to MedShare Relief Organization

NEW YORK, Jan. 19, 2017 — King & Spalding lawyers and staff from the firm’s New York office spent today volunteering at the New Jersey distribution center for MedShare International, an organization that collects and ships medical supplies and equipment to developing countries and responds to global disasters.

It was the first time King & Spalding personnel had volunteered at MedShare’s Northeast distribution center in Secaucus, but the firm has worked on volunteer efforts with the organization for many years. Volunteers today worked sorting and bundling medical supplies that are destined for hospitals and crisis sites in Asia and Africa.

“King & Spalding has always been generous with its volunteer time and donations,” said MedShare CEO and President Charles Redding. “We very much appreciate their efforts and were excited to have them at our Northeast distribution center.”

In recent years, King & Spalding attorneys and staff have volunteered at the group’s Western supply distribution center in San Leandro, Calif. as well as its Southeast distribution center in Atlanta, and have donated tens of thousands of dollars to MedShare relief efforts. Such efforts have provided aid following disasters including the Nepal and Haiti earthquakes, and have supported needy hospitals in Liberia. Tom Hawk, a partner in the Healthcare Practice Group in King & Spalding’s Atlanta office, currently serves on MedShare’s Southeast Regional Council, and Glen Reed, also a Healthcare Practice Group partner, was a founding board member of MedShare, as well as a former board chair.
