King & Spalding Partner Sara Kay Wheeler, President of HCCA, Takes Part in 20th Annual Compliance Institute

ATLANTA, May 4, 2016 — King & Spalding was proud to support the Health Care Compliance Association’s (HCCA) annual Compliance Institute, which concluded late last month in Las Vegas. Atlanta Healthcare partner Sara Kay Wheeler currently serves as president of the HCCA/Society of Corporate Compliance & Ethics (SCCE) board of directors, and was involved significantly in the planning of the Compliance Institute.

Numerous King & Spalding attorneys attended the event, and Wheeler presented at several sessions and provided introductory remarks during a general session. Additionally, Houston Healthcare partner Gary Eiland was a featured speaker. King & Spalding also hosted a reception during the conference.

The HCCA Compliance Institute is one of the largest education and networking events for professionals working in the health care compliance industry. HCCA marked its 20th anniversary this year, which demonstrates the organization’s longstanding significance in the industry. Conference-goers had the opportunity to select from 149 sessions, 253 speakers, and 10 learning tracks on topics including general compliance, privacy and security, auditing and monitoring, and quality of care issues. Key issues addressed at this year’s event included HIPAA audits and enforcement, social media and compliance, 340B audits, overpayments and the 60-day rule, telehealth compliance, Federal Administrative Sanctions and preventing readmissions.

On April 27, Wheeler, joined by Atlanta Healthcare partner Phyllis Sumner and senior associate Stephanie Johnson, spoke on a King & Spalding webinar titled, “Internal Investigation and Remediation Strategies: Are Your Protocols Sufficient Under Final 60-Day Overpayment Rule and Other Enforcement Initiatives?”
