King & Spalding Advised on Three Winning Transactions at Infrastructure Journal and Project Finance Magazine Awards Dinner


HOUSTON, March 16, 2015 — King & Spalding advised on three winning transactions at IJ Global (Infrastructure Journal and Project Finance Magazine) annual Americas Awards dinner recognizing achievements in 2014. King & Spalding was among the few law firms with multiple transactions to be named deal of the year in various categories. The firm was the legal advisor for Freeport LNG which won the evening’s prestigious overall “global” award. 

King & Spalding represented clients on three different projects that won deal of the year in the following categories:

  • Freeport LNG won in the North America Oil & Gas category.  King & Spalding drafted and negotiated the liquefied natural gas (LNG) liquefaction tolling agreements and the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract for the largest non-recourse project financing in the history of the United States for financial commitments of approximately $11 billion. This project won the overall “global” award that evening.
    The King & Spalding team consisted of partners Philip Weems and Scott Greer and associates Monica Hwang and David Strickland.  

  • Sasol Chemicals (USA) LLC won in the North America Petrochemicals category.  King & Spalding drafted and negotiated the engineering, procurement and construction management (EPCM) contract, and a wide range of construction contracts for this world-scale petrochemical complex near Lake Charles, Louisiana. This $8.1 billion project will include a 1.5 million-tons-per-year ethane cracker and six downstream derivatives units expected to be ready for commercial operations in 2018.
    The King & Spalding team consisted of partner Scott Greer, counsel Scott Chalmers and associate Jonathan Katz.

  • Oregon Clean Energy, LLC  won in the Single Asset Power category. King & Spalding drafted and negotiated the EPC contracts for the power plant and substation. The $800 million clean energy project, known as the Oregon Clean Energy  Center, will occupy a 30-acre site in the city of Oregon and will consist of two Siemens SGT6-800H gas turbines and one stream turbine. The project is expected to be ready for commercial operation in 2017.
    The King & Spalding team consisted of partner Scott Greer and associates Jonathan Katz, David Strickland and Dimitri Tagaropulos.

The IJ Global Americas Awards dinner was held on March 12th at Cipriani in New York City. Over 500 people attended the annual award dinner.
