U.N. Secretary-General Urges Countries to Remedy Inequity in Vaccine Distribution

Antonio Guterres, the U.N. Secretary-General, recently voiced his concern about the “wildly uneven and unfair” distribution of COVID-19 vaccines around the world. To highlight the existing inequities, Guterres stated that 75 percent of all COVID-19 vaccinations have been administered by 10 countries. Gutteres insisted that world leaders, scientists, and vaccine manufacturers should work together to create a Global Vaccination Plan to eliminate existing inequities in vaccine distribution. Specifically, the Secretary-General encouraged global economic leaders in the Group of 20 to assemble an emergency task force, which should have the ability “to mobilize the pharmaceutical companies and key industry and logistics actors.” Click here to see more details.
