China Boosts the Development of Prefabricated Buildings

The State Council of China recently issued the Guidelines on Strongly Developing Prefabricated Buildings to boost the development of prefabricated buildings, i.e., buildings assembled with prefabrications on site, as an effort to promote the transformation and upgrade of the buildings industry. The Chinese government plans to promote the prefabricated buildings in densely-populated cities, with a target of having prefabricated buildings account for at least 30 percent of the total area of new buildings within ten years. The Guidelines call on the government to increase support for the prefabricated buildings industry through industrial development, technology innovation, and environmental protection related policies, tax incentives, and land supply measures.
