King & Spalding is proud to have contributed to the Global Health and Legal Landscape Report on Female Genital Mutilation, a groundbreaking international study commissioned by The Vavengers, a UK-based charity led by female migrants and survivors, and co-authored with WilmerHale (the “Report”).
Led by Sir Max Hill KCB KC, King & Spalding worked closely with The Vavengers and WilmerHale to deliver the 550-page report covering 194 jurisdictions. The Report serves as a practical tool for FGM advocates, prosecutors, governments, practitioners, healthcare providers and members of the public, identifying systemic gaps and proposing survivor-centred reforms to improve support and accountability.
The team presented early findings at the 69th Session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women, with the final Report launched during the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. Sir Max Hill KCB KC also discussed the Report’s implications on the International Bar Association’s Criminal Law Committee Podcast.
The project involved 33 contributors from the King & Spalding’s global offices, including London, Paris, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sydney, Atlanta, New York, Washington D.C., Los Angeles and Houston.
A core team, comprising Catherine Munro, Elysia-Elena Stellakis, Ishita Shah, Nick Impey, and Olivia Wynne Thomas, played a central role in developing the Report from its inception. The Report can be accessed here. The IBA podcast can be accessed here.
