International Arbitration & Litigation

Our International Arbitration & Litigation team handles complex commercial, construction and investment treaty disputes across their full lifecycle, from pre-dispute strategy through hearings, related court proceedings, enforcement and asset recovery. With experience in more than 140 countries, we coordinate integrated multi-jurisdictional strategies, including parallel litigation and investigations.

Resolving Complex Disputes at Global Scale

We represent a broad range of clients across sectors and jurisdictions worldwide, from established international businesses to fast-growing challengers. Our practice spans the spectrum of cross-border disputes, including proceedings under the rules of all major arbitral institutions and ad hoc regimes:

  • Commercial disputes: High-value disputes arising from major transactions and strategic business relationships, including M&A, joint ventures, shareholder arrangements and long-term contracts.
  • Investment treaty disputes: Treaty and contract-based proceedings, including ICSID cases, where we consistently appear among the firms with the highest number of pending cases, as well as disputes involving complex jurisdictional, merits and enforcement issues.
  • Construction and infrastructure disputes: Complex disputes arising from some of the world’s largest energy, civil engineering, urban development and concession projects, as well as technology-intensive developments.
  • Sovereign, sanction, sand public international law issues: Disputes involving state-linked parties, sovereign immunity, sanctions-affected jurisdictions or counterparties and questions of public international law, often with significant regulatory and geopolitical dimensions.
  • Arbitration-related litigation and parallel proceedings: Complex multi-forum disputes requiring coordinated court applications, parallel litigation and related investigations across jurisdictions, including proceedings in both common and civil law systems.
  • Enforcement and asset recovery: Multi-jurisdictional strategies that convert awards and judgments into actual recoveries, coordinating with local counsel and investigators toidentify, freeze and pursue recoverable assets.

Industry Insight

Our disputes are shaped by the industries in which they arise. We have deep experience in energy, mining and major infrastructure, alongside a broad disputes portfolio spanning life sciences, financial services, private capital, chemicals, consumer goods, aviation and aerospace, and technology.

Many of our disputes arise from sophisticated transactions, projects and investments at the forefront of their sectors, including first-of-kind matters. We work closely with colleagues across the firm who help structure and execute these matters, combining sector fluency with disputes experience in areas that often have no ready precedent.

This work includes disputes arising from joint ventures, shareholder agreements, long-term supply and offtake arrangements, concessions, state measures and other strategic commercial relationships.

Many of these disputes also carry significant regulatory and geopolitical implications, and we routinely navigate those issues alongside the underlying commercial and technical questions.
