The Recorder Names Judy O’Brien to its Women Leaders in Tech Law List

PALO ALTO, Calif., Aug. 4, 2016 — The Recorder has named King & Spalding Silicon Valley partner Judy O’Brien to its 2016 Women Leaders in Tech Law list. The list honors California “lawyers who handle game-changing, law-shaping, market-moving work in and around the technology sector,” according to the publication.

O’Brien heads King & Spalding’s Emerging Company Practice Group and has represented entrepreneurial and emerging growth companies, both public and private, as well as investors and investment banking firms that finance them. She also has represented larger companies, public and private, in connection with a variety of corporate matters, including mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance transactions and corporate governance issues.

Prior to joining King & Spalding in 2012, O’Brien spent over 35 years working with emerging growth companies in the valley, in-house and as a firm attorney. Following 21 years in a big law firm, she served as managing director at the Incubic Venture Fund, and afterwards served as executive vice president and general counsel at Obopay, a global mobile payment company. She has served as a member of the board of directors and of the Nominating and Governance Committee as well as chairman of the Compensation Committee of Ciena Corporation since 2000; as a board member for Theatro, Inc. since 2012; and as a board member for Inform, Inc. since 2015. She has also served on the boards and advisory committees of numerous other public and private companies through the years.

O’Brien is ranked and recommended for her venture capital expertise by Chambers USA and Legal 500 United States, and has been named a Dealmaker of the Year by The American Lawyer. She also appeared on Forbes magazine’s prestigious Midas Touch list for five straight years as one of venture capital’s most powerful dealmakers.
