SAN FRANCISCO, March 17, 2026 – King & Spalding announced today that Mike Rueckheim has joined the firm as a partner in the Business Litigation practice group. He is based in the San Francisco office.
Rueckheim is a patent litigator who guides leading technology companies through complex patent and related matters. He has handled hundreds of patent matters, including guiding clients through all stages of district court litigation and Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) post-grant processes, from pre-suit investigations to jury trials and International Trade Commission (ITC) hearings, and through appeals of each up to the Federal Circuit. He advises clients spanning the semiconductor, memory, telecom, medical device, networking, and virtualization spaces, with a focus on standards-based issues. Prior to becoming a lawyer, he served as a semiconductor process technician at Motorola, where he focused on trouble-shooting issues with high-tech instrumentation such as plasma etchers, and as an analytical research chemist in oil, gas and environmental labs focusing on mass spectroscopy and related instrumentation.
“Mike is a talented IP litigator who brings extensive patent litigation experience and a strong technical background that will be critical as we continue to grow our IP and technology litigation capabilities,” said Jessica Corley, co-leader of the firm’s Business Litigation practice group. “We are excited to have Mike as the latest addition to the team that has recently joined us as we expand our complex commercial and IP litigation bench and look forward to how he will contribute to our growth in California and across the firm.”
Rueckheim joins King & Spalding from Winston & Strawn, where he was a partner and the Chair of the Litigation Practice for the Silicon Valley office. He reunites with his 12 partner colleagues who came to King & Spalding in February and earlier in March in an expansion of King & Spalding's complex commercial and IP litigation capabilities. He received his B.S. in biochemistry from the University of Texas and his J.D., magna cum laude, from Washington University Law School.
“King & Spalding has built a rapidly growing IP litigation platform that brings together elite trial experience and deep technical know-how,” said Rueckheim. “That combination – along with the opportunity to reunite with my colleagues whom I’ve worked with for many years and have recently joined the firm – made this the right move for me.”
