Description
Virtually every day a data breach or emerging cyber threat makes headline news. Threats to data security continue to evolve in both scope and complexity, requiring organizations to constantly re-evaluate their approach and allocation of resources.
These developments are pertinent to IP counsel for at least two reasons. The first is that one of the fundamental classes of data being protected by organizations is intellectual property. Both in-house and outside IP counsel should understand the threats posed by cyber-attacks and the current legal framework pertaining to the protection of the IP assets they manage. Secondly, certain IP counsel may be suited for assisting with certain data security issues because they have particular relevant technical expertise. Organizations may increasingly see a benefit to enlisting technically-proficient counsel to help with their data security initiatives, such as with incident response.
This e-Learn will include a brief overview of the cybersecurity landscape and how data security issues impact intellectual property. It will also explore how organizations may be able to leverage technical IP counsel to better insulate themselves from the risks posed by cyber threats.
