Devil In The Details: A Deep Dive Into CMS’s Recent 2016 Medicare Payment Rules


On August 17, 2015, King & Spalding will host a Healthcare Roundtable that will analyze the important provider payment implications of CMS’s recent 2016 Medicare rulemakings, including the Inpatient PPS Final Rule and the Outpatient PPS and Medicare Physician Fee Schedule Proposed Rules.

The seventy-five minute Roundtable will include the following topics:

  • A Look at the Numbers: What are the net payment rate updates, and what increases and reductions did CMS apply to get there?

  • The Latest on DSH/UCC Payments: An examination of CMS’s $1.2 billion reduction in uncompensated care payments and treatment of certain Medicaid days.

  • The Two-Midnight Rule: The latest on the Two-Midnight Rule and CMS’s 0.2 percent payment reduction to IPPS rates.

  • Pay-for-Performance: Developments in CMS’s pay-for-performance models, including the hospital Value-Based Purchasing Program, Hospital Acquired Conditions and Readmissions Program, and the new Merit-Based Incentive Payment System for physicians.

  • Outpatient Payment Bundling: A look at CMS’s new comprehensive APCs and bundling initiatives

  • Physician Payment Issues: New policies for physician supervision of “incident to” services and new codes for end-of-life counseling.
