Application Pathways

King & Spalding is dedicated to meeting law students where they are, when they’re ready. For candidates in the graduating class of 2029, we offer two pathways to join our Summer Associate Program. We encourage you to review each option and apply for the pathway that best fits your goals.

1L/2L Dual Summer Associate

This pathway allows first-year law students to spend both their 1L and 2L summers with the firm. For Dual Summer candidates, receiving and accepting a 1L summer associate position is contingent upon also accepting the 2L summer associate position at the outset. All 1L/2L Dual Summer Associates will receive a signing bonus. 2L Summer Associate

This pathway serves as the primary entry point for summer associate hiring at the firm. Only students applying for this pathway may be considered for our 2L Sector Fellowships. To apply, please select “2L Summer Associate” or “2L Sector Fellow” for the department, and indicate your practice group preference in the “Position” tab. 2L Sector Fellowships

King & Spalding is pleased to introduce the 2L Sector Fellowships, a new program for 2L candidates whose advanced degrees, prior professional experience, or sector-specific expertise make them especially valuable additions to the firm.

Those selected to be 2L Sector Fellows will receive a signing bonus and be matched with an industry-aligned track. Each of these sectors brings together K&S lawyers with targeted interest, experience and market knowledge to drive thought leadership, business development, and client service excellence.

In addition to a resume, transcript and writing sample, please provide a written statement, not to exceed 500 words, describing your interest in and qualifications for one of the below fellowships:

Energy, Infrastructure & Environmental

For candidates with backgrounds in engineering, energy, utilities, environmental consulting, and related fields.

Financial Services

For candidates with backgrounds in investment banking, accounting, consulting, private equity, asset management, FinTech, and related fields.

Government & Regulatory

For candidates with backgrounds in government agencies, public policy, enforcement, regulatory agencies, legislative affairs, and related fields.

Healthcare & Life Sciences

For candidates with backgrounds in healthcare administration, scientific research, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, medical practice, and related fields.

Technology & AI

For candidates with backgrounds in engineering, software development, product management, data science, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, digital transformation, and related fields.

All summer associates participate in the full K&S summer experience, including time within their specific area of interest, professional development trainings, and mentorship opportunities. In addition, you’ll build practical skills through cross-office work and firmwide programming, including:

K&S Summer Summit

A signature experience that brings summer associates together with K&S lawyers from across the country for skill-building programs, networking opportunities, and community-building activities.

Connect K&S

A travel program offering all summer associates the opportunity to visit another K&S office, including international offices for our 2L students, and experience our culture of cross-collaboration firsthand.
