Matthew Kelsey (Matt)

Matt Kelsey represents lenders, agents and investors across the capital structure in special situations financings, complex restructurings, in-court and out-of-court Chapter 11 matters, liability management transactions and distressed M&A and credit investments.

Clients regularly call upon Matt to structure and execute bespoke financing solutions and to navigate complex enforcement, workout and restructuring scenarios. His representations span administrative agents, collateral agents and arrangers on senior secured credit facilities; private equity-sponsored lenders on subordinated term loans; commercial and investment banks on NAV-based fund finance facilities; secured creditors in non-bankruptcy enforcement actions; and Chapter 11 debtors and creditors in negotiated settlement and debt forgiveness transactions.

Matt also provides distressed-investing counsel to investment firms, hedge funds and other financial institutions. His experience extends across a wide range of industries, including transportation, real estate, retail, pharmaceuticals, infrastructure, financial services, shipping, construction, private credit and fund finance, industrial manufacturing, behavioral healthcare and consumer experiential businesses.

Matt has been recognized for seven consecutive years by Chambers USA for Bankruptcy/Restructuring in New York, as well as by IFLR1000 and Legal 500 for his restructuring practice. He has also received a Medal of Excellence from the American Bankruptcy Institute and was named an Outstanding Restructuring Lawyer by Turnarounds & Workouts.
