Maria de las Mercedes Rodriguez Martel (Mercedes)

Mercedes Rodriguez represents clients in complex business litigation and arbitration matters involving trade secret, contract and licensing, and business tort disputes.

Before joining King & Spalding, Mercedes practiced at an international law firm where she represented clients in commercial litigation, arbitration, and regulatory and internal investigations. Her experience includes matters involving corporate fraud allegations, acquisition-related disputes, trade secrets and anti-trust claims.

Mercedes previously served as a law clerk to Justice Richard L. Gabriel of the Colorado Supreme Court.

During law school, Mercedes served as a judicial intern to Judge Charlotte N. Sweeney of the U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado and as a legal intern in the Consumer Protection Unit of the Colorado Attorney General’s Office, where she worked on antitrust matters and matters involving companies whose conduct harmed consumers. She was also a member of the Civil Litigation Clinic.

Prior to her legal career, Mercedes worked for international non-governmental organizations in conflict-affected regions, investigating violations of the laws of armed conflict and providing humanitarian assistance.

Mercedes earned her J.D., Order of the Coif, from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law.
