• Representing Amerra Capital in a NAFTA arbitration against Mexico to Mexico’s actions in connection to mortgages held by the investor.
• Representing Odyssey Marine Exploration in a NAFTA arbitration against Mexico regarding a dredging project to extract phosphate from the Pacific Ocean off the Baja California Peninsula.
• Representing Corporación America and Kuntur Wasi against Perú in an ICSID arbitration regarding an airport concession in Cusco, Perú.
• Representing Mexican shareholders and bondholders in an UNCITRAL arbitration arising from the resolution of their interests in the fifth largest bank in Spain.
• Representing Colombian investors and Desarrollo Vial de los Andes in an ICSID arbitration against Peru relating to a toll-road concession contract.
• Representing an international producer of household goods against a South American State in an UNCITRAL arbitration regarding a manufacturing enterprise.
• Representing an international airline in an investment arbitration claim against Venezuela involving a dispute over repatriation of proceeds from domestic ticket sales.
• Representing Gente Oil Ecuador Pte. Ltd in a UNCITRAL arbitration administered arising out of a dispute involving a risk service oil contract with Ecuador.
• Representing British claimants in a multi-billion-dollar UNCITRAL/PCA-administered arbitration against a South American state in the mining sector.
• Advising different foreign companies with investments in Mexico in relation to Mexico’s electricity and hydrocarbons reforms, including the protections they may be entitled to under investment treaties and free trade agreements and measures that investors should adopt to preserve their right to initiate international arbitrations.
• Representing a Colombian refinery in an ICC arbitration regarding a construction dispute.
• Advising a U.S. telecommunications company in an ongoing ICC arbitration regarding the alleged breaches of a commercial contract subject to Mexican law.
• Represented a Japanese conglomerate in an ICC arbitration against a Mexican company regarding the alleged breach of a commercial contract.
• Represented South American Silver against Bolivia in an UNCITRAL arbitration under the U.K.-Bolivia Bilateral Investment Treaty regarding a mining project in Bolivia.
• Represented Bear Creek Mining Corporation against Peru in an ICSID arbitration under the Canada-Peru Free Trade Agreement regarding a mining project in Peru.
• Represented a Mexican family in an ICC arbitration against a Japanese pharmaceutical company regarding the alleged breach of a share purchase agreement.
• Represented a Swiss reinsurer in an arbitration against a Mexican insurance company regarding the alleged breach of a reinsurance contract.
• Represented a Mexican natural gas distribution company in an ICC arbitration regarding the alleged breach of a gas supply contract.

Fernando Rodriguez-Cortina is a partner in King & Spalding's Houston office and a member of the firm's International Disputes Practice Group. As a dual-qualified attorney, with law degrees from civil and common law jurisdictions (Mexico and the U.S.), Fernando specializes in complex international disputes, offering a unique cross- border perspective and a deep regional and cultural understanding.

Fernando’s practice centers on representing clients in high-stakes arbitrations and international disputes, with an emphasis in Latin America. His expertise spans commercial, civil, and international law issues, as well as bilateral investment treaties, and represents clients in commercial and investor-state arbitrations under the ICC, ICSID and UNCITRAL Arbitration Rules. He has represented major players across diverse industries, including oil and gas, mining, aerospace, retail, construction, finance, pharmaceutical, automotive, aviation and insurance. 

He earned his law degree from Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico City and completed the Law and Global Economy dual degree LL.M program at the New York University School of Law and the National University of Singapore. Before joining King & Spalding in 2014, Fernando spent seven years as an associate in a leading Mexican law firm in Mexico City.
