Charlie Caher helps clients resolve complex cross-border disputes, leading teams in international arbitration matters across multiple jurisdictions and sectors and English Court commercial litigation. With a particular focus on energy, infrastructure and construction, he regularly represents corporates and sovereigns in high-stakes international disputes, delivering results through strategic guidance and tenacious advocacy. With more than 20 years of experience, Charlie represents corporates and sovereigns in high-stakes and complex international disputes worldwide, acting as first chair advocate on bet-the-company cases. He has represented clients in international commercial arbitrations under the rules of all major institutions, including the ICC, LCIA, SIAC, AAA/ICDR and DIS. He is a Solicitor-Advocate with Higher Rights of Audience in the English High Court.
Charlie works closely with clients from the earliest stage of the dispute process through to conclusion of the matter, formulating strategy and delivering powerful advocacy to help clients achieve their commercial objectives. Charlie has particular experience representing companies and sovereigns in the energy, infrastructure and construction sectors in high-value arbitrations arising under joint venture agreements, production sharing contracts and EPC contracts. He also has experience with a wide variety of other sectors, including finance, media, automotive and insurance.

King & Spalding Continues International Disputes Push, Adding Partner Charlie Caher in London
Represented a Middle Eastern state entity in a consolidated US$1.7 billion LCIA arbitration seated in London against a UK-domiciled international energy company relating to the termination of two production sharing contracts in the Middle East. The case had significant geopolitical implications for the region.
Represented a major U.S. oil and gas exploration and production company in a US$2 billion ICC arbitration seated in London against an oil and gas supermajor relating to the parties’ rights and obligations under a long-term gas supply and purchase agreement. The case was one of the most significant energy arbitrations of the last several years, addressing whether a seller under a long-term GSPA is entitled to “wilfully breach” its obligations and sell its cargoes to a third party.
Represented a European contractor in a US$300 million ICC arbitration seated in Lima against a joint Italian-Peruvian consortium relating to delays and cost overruns to a hydropower project in the Peruvian Andes. The case dealt with complex and highly technical issues, including in relation to concurrent delay and gross negligence.
