Barry Shuman

Barry has been a patent agent for over 20 years. He has a Ph.D. in organic chemistry and extensive experience in biochemistry, molecular biology and protein purification. He has written and prosecuted patent applications in organic chemistry, biotechnology, biochemistry, drug/pharmaceuticals, immunology, molecular biology, protein purification, treatment of medical conditions/diseases, polymers, materials science, cosmetics, business methods, instrumentation, printers, medical devices, mechanical systems, molten salt reactors, desalination, energy storage, and semiconductor and communication technologies. He has experience in patentability, freedom to operate, and infringement opinions, and inter partes review proceedings. Prior to becoming a patent agent, he was the associate director of assay development at a company that is now part of Thermo Fisher Scientific, Inc. In this role, he was responsible for developing immunoassays in a wide variety of formats.
