People

Anne Voigts is a partner at King & Spalding in the firm’s Appellate, Constitutional and Administrative Law Group who has worked on cases before the United States Supreme Court, the California Supreme Court, and federal and state appellate and trial courts. A former Supreme Court and Ninth Circuit clerk, she has argued over 60 cases in federal and state appellate courts. A former federal prosecutor with over a decade of public service in the Central and Northern District of California, she has over twenty years of experience handling appeals and critical motions practice and routinely advises trial teams on complex legal issues in a wide range of cases. She has worked on cases involving data privacy and cybersecurity, class actions, securities law, contractual disputes, preemption, false advertising and unfair competition laws, and issues involving the CCPA, California’s Unfair Competition Law, the Fair Credit Reporting Act, the False Claims Act, the Stored Communications Act, the TCPA, and the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act. In the class action context, she has successfully petitioned for appellate review under Fed. R. Civ. P. 23(f) and regularly consults on critical motions practice on class actions in the trial and district court.  A Certified International Privacy Professional -U.S., she also handles privacy- and cybersecurity-related class actions, has helped develop successful strategies for initial challenges to such suits, and has helped companies respond to privacy-related governmental investigations.

Voigts serves by appointment on the Advisory Board to the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and is a member of the American Academy of Appellate Lawyers.   She is also a member of the California Lawyer’s Association’s Committee on Appellate Courts, a former member of the American Bar Association’s Standing Committee on Amicus Briefs, a former Chair of the Appellate Lawyer Representatives for the Ninth Circuit, and former lead editor and contributor to the first edition of the Representatives’ Practice Guide, found on the Ninth Circuit’s website.  A California Certified Appellate Specialist, she has taught appellate advocacy at USC Gould School of Law and the Department of Justice’s National Advocacy Center, among others.  She regularly speaks on developments in Supreme Court and Ninth Circuit case law, privacy law, including the California Consumer Privacy Act and California Privacy Rights Act, as well as effective legal writing.  Voigts has participated on panels at the Federal Bar Association’s qui tam conference, Stanford’s Rock Center Directors’ College, the Ingram Inn of Court, and the California Lawyers Association, among others.  She also has an active amicus brief practice. She is a former President of the Federal Bar Association-Northern District of California Chapter, a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation, and appointed to a three-year term on the Northern District of California’s Criminal Justice Act Appellate Panel Selection Committee and Habeas Corpus Local Rules Attorney Advisory Committee.  Voigts maintains an active pro bono practice, and is a member of the CJA appellate panels for the Central and Northern Districts of California.
