INVESTMENT TREATY ARBITRATION

• Representing Backus and the largest brewer in the world in an ICSID dispute against Peru concerning the application of certain taxes and the resulting breach of international treaties.
• Representing VINCI in an ICSID dispute against Peru relating to its operation of a toll road in the City of Lima.
• Representing Amerra Capital in a NAFTA arbitration against Mexico in connection to mortgages held by the investor.
• Successfully represented Desarrollo Vial de los Andes in an ICSID dispute against Peru regarding the impossibility to collect toll fees in one of the highest roads in Latin America.
• Represented a U.S. mining company against Peru in investor-state arbitrations regarding a mining project.

Commercial Arbitration

• Representing The Coca-Cola Company in a Europe-based commercial arbitration under a long-term sponsorship agreement.
• Successfully represented LIMA EXPRESA S.A.C. in a high profile dispute against the City of Lima relating to allegations of nullity of a concession agreement for a toll road construction project and construction counterclaims.
• Successfully represented a U.S. pharmaceutical company in an Swiss Rules arbitration relating to the development and marketing of a generic drug.
• Obtained a favorable settlement for a U.S. manufacturing company in a dispute against a European buyer.

ADVISORY

• Advised a G20 government on its participation in advisory proceedings on climate change before the International Court of Justice.
• Advised a G20 government on its participation in advisory proceedings on climate change before the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea.
• Advised a major international energy company on the design and implementation of a human rights due diligence program and on the identification of its salient human rights issues.
• Advised a G20 government on its participation in negotiations on the U.N. Convention against Cybercrime.
• Advised a G20 government on its participation in UN negotiations on a legally binding instrument on business and human rights.

Alex Levin is an associate in the Trial and Global Disputes Practice Group of King & Spalding's Geneva office. His practice focuses on international arbitration and litigation.

Prior to joining King & Spalding, Alex gained experience in litigation and arbitration at Cuatrecasas and PricewaterhouseCoopers in Spain and Hinshaw & Culbertson in Florida. He also interned for Judge Jose Rodriguez of the International Commercial Arbitration Division (11th Judicial Circuit in Miami). 

Alex attended the University of Barcelona (Spain), where he was the sole recipient of a fully-funded merit-based scholarship to study a J.D. at Nova Southeastern University in Florida, where he graduated summa cum laude. While in law school, he participated in the Willem C. Vis International Arbitration Moot Court, the Nova Law Review, and the Nova International Arbitration Society, which he co-founded.

Alex is admitted to the Florida and Spanish Bar.

He is fluent in English, Spanish, and Catalan with a conversational level in French.
