Yiran (Aaron) Xu, Ph.D. is a patent agent who focuses his practice on patent litigations and general patent prosecution matters. His electrical engineering and computer science trainings have endowed him with diverse knowledge in many technical fields, with specialization in wireless communications (LTE/5G, WiFi, SATCOM, etc.), video coding (AVC/HEVC), semiconductor, FinTech, software, and artificial intelligence.

Dr. Xu has leveraged his engineering expertise to solve complex technical issues in high-stakes patent litigation and trade secret matters. He also assists attorneys representing clients involved in patent portfolio management, ITC Section 337 Investigations, and IP due diligence matters.

Prior to beginning his legal career, Dr. Xu was a senior research scientist and wireless system engineer at a data fusion technology company, where he led multiple R&D projects in the area of 5G system modeling, satellite communication, machine learning, and cyber security systems.

Throughout Dr. Xu's research career, he holds more than 2 U.S. patents, 17 publications, and has drafted multiple successfully funded grant proposals. In addition, Dr. Xu has served as a technical program chair and committee member for IEEE and SPIE conferences.
