Amy Frey specializes in investment treaty arbitration, public international law and human rights law. A partner in our International Arbitration practice, Amy primarily represents clients with claims against foreign states arising from bilateral investment treaties and the Energy Charter Treaty. She has represented investors all over the world. Our International Arbitration practice is routinely named in the top five such practices globally and was named a 2016 Practice Group of the Year by Law360.
Amy counsels clients in arbitration under the rules of the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes, the International Chamber of Commerce, the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce and the UN Commission on International Trade Law. She has represented investors in claims against Algeria, Argentina, Bangladesh, the Czech Republic, Ecuador, Egypt, Italy, Kazakhstan, Romania, Spain and Venezuela, and is experienced in requests for interim, injunctive relief and in annulment proceedings.
Recent matters have concerned complex tax and tariff disputes, including the application of customs duties on imports, changes to corporate income tax regimes, taxes on the export of oil and gas, transport pricing, and so-called “windfall profits” taxes.
In addition, Amy takes on public interest law and pro bono projects, particularly in human rights law. Matters include domestic violence, child abuse, asylum, juvenile delinquent status and human trafficking.
Fluent in English and French, Amy is listed in the 2016 Legal 500 EMEA Guide for Arbitration. She is a member of the bar in Texas, Washington, D.C. and Paris. She also holds a masters degree in International Human Rights Law from the University of Oxford.
