IJGlobal, an infrastructure and energy platform, has recognized King & Spalding at its IJGlobal Middle East and North Africa Awards for two deals the firm advised on in 2024.
The award-winning deals are:
- PPP Deal of the Year: Amaala Multi Utilities Project, Saudi Arabia. A cross-border team led by Partner Tim Burbury advised sponsors Masdar, EDF, Suez International and Korea East-West Power on their successful bid through to financial close. This involved the financing, development and operation of a multi-plant integrated utility system (solar PV, bio diesel ICE, BESS, water and wastewater plants). The project, valued at approximately US$1.5 billion, stands out for the complexities of developing and operating the interdependent integrated systems “off grid” utilizing only green energy, including during the construction phase. - Energy Transition Deal of the Year: Al Ajban PV3, UAE. Partner Brendan Hundt led a team that advised Masdar on the financing, development and operation of the Al Ajban Solar PV project, one of the world’s largest single-site solar power plants and an essential milestone to the UAE’s energy diversification and decarbonization efforts. The Al Ajban Solar PV project was procured by EWEC and is owned by Masdar (60%) and an EDF/KEPCO consortium (40%).
