backThe General Court has ruled in favour of our client, Hala Almaghout, in her application to annul sanctions measures against her under the EU – Syria sanctions regime.
The Court ruled that Hala was not “associated with the [former] Syrian regime, did not exercise influence over that regime, and […] did not pose a real risk of circumvention”, concluding that the sanctions measures against her were vitiated by an error of assessment. The judgment follows three years of hard-fought litigation against the Council and, during which we worked with counsel in Austria, Germany, France, Syria, the UAE, Russia and beyond.
