King & Spalding Sponsors an AIPLA Women in IP Cares Community Service Event

King & Spalding’s Women in IP group is sponsoring an AIPLA Women in IP Cares Community Service Event at the Thurgood Marshall Academy, a college-preparatory public charter high school located in ward 8’s historic Anacostia neighborhood. Thurgood Marshall Academy prepares students to succeed in college and instills in students an understanding of democracy and advocacy for themselves and for others. For more information, go to http://thurgoodmarshallacademy.org/about/.

The program will start with a brief presentation to introduce students to IP law, showing them how it has become an integral part of their daily life: patents on phone technology, copyrights in streaming music, and trademarks for apps. Following the presentation the students will engage in the discussion—by bringing stories of their experiences with law and technology. Donations of school supplies will also be collected.
