King & Spalding Secures Victory for La Francaise des Jeux, the French National Lottery

PARIS, Oct. 26, 2016 — King & Spalding has represented La Française des Jeux in the successful defense of a breach-of-contract claim.

La Française des Jeux is the operator of the French national lottery and related games, and supervises winnings payments between retailers and more than a hundred authorized agents.

In 2012, La Française des Jeux cancelled contracts with certain authorized agents, and this termination included a notice period and compensation. The majority of agents challenged this termination, alleging that the compensation and notice were insufficient, and launching a €550 million claim.

The case went before the Paris Commercial Court and, on Oct. 3, the Court rejected the action brought by the authorized agents. King & Spalding defended La Française des Jeux in the case, and the team was led by Paris partners Joel Alquezar and Vanessa Benichou and included lawyer Anne Atlan.
