King & Spalding Secures Victory for Beech-Nut and Walmart in Baby Food Heavy Metals MDL

On February 27, 2026, King & Spalding secured a decisive Rule 702 victory for clients Beech-Nut Nutrition Company and Walmart Inc. in MDL 3101, In re Baby Food Products Liability Litigation. U.S. District Judge Jacqueline Scott Corley of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California excluded plaintiffs’ exposure and causation experts, holding that plaintiffs’ experts failed to provide admissible opinions linking consumption of baby food to plaintiffs’ alleged injuries, autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Critically, Judge Corley noted, "There are no studies considering whether consumption of baby food is associated with ASD or ADHD, and the experts fail to scientifically justify extrapolating from the studies they cite.”

The King & Spalding team includes Liv Kiser, Eva Canaan, Todd Davis, Michael Lombardo, Mike Resch and Brooke Kopel.
