King & Spalding Represents California Hospital Association (“CHA”) In Lawsuit Against Anthem Blue Cross

On May 4th, 2026, California Hospital Association (“CHA”) filed a complaint in California Superior Court, Los Angeles County challenging Anthem Blue Cross's new policy which imposes a penalty on in-network hospitals if they allow non-contracted physicians to perform medical services to Anthem’s PPO members at the hospitals. The lawsuit alleges that Anthem’s actions violated California law, constitute fraudulent marketing to its PPO members, and constitute an unfair business activity in that Anthem is pressuring the hospitals to fix Anthem’s inability to convince physicians to accept Anthem’s low contracted rates.

King & Spalding is representing the California Hospital Association (“CHA”) in the litigation. CHA includes 400 hospitals in California and is the largest hospital association in the country.

The King & Spalding team includes Daron L. Tooch, Glenn E. Solomon, Paul Johnson and David Tassa.
