King & Spalding Recruits Executive Compensation and Employee Benefits Partner in London

LONDON, Oct 27, 2021 – King & Spalding has recruited Robert Marshall II, an executive compensation and employee benefits lawyer based in London, as a partner in the firm’s Corporate, Finance and Investments (CFI) Practice Group.

Marshall, who will be a part of the Global Human Capital and Compliance (GHCC) team established in September 2020, has extensive experience advising public and private companies on executive compensation and equity plan issues on a global basis, spanning more than 140 countries. His practice covers advice on securities compliance and disclosure, tax, corporate governance, stock-and cash-based plans, cross-border transactions and spin-offs, executive transfers, HR, employment/severance packages and stock exchange matters.

“Rob has an impressive portfolio of advising large multinational companies on their most sophisticated compensation and benefits arrangements globally, which is complemented by his transatlantic experience, making him a valuable addition for the GHCC team,” said Todd Holleman, head of the CFI practice. “Clients increasingly require a global approach to their compensation and benefits schemes and Rob will be a vital aspect of further building our European and Global capabilities.”

Marshall’s hire follows that of six GHCC partners in the US, announced earlier in October. Marshall, who is recommended in Legal 500 US, was most recently a partner at Jones Day in London and spends a substantial amount of time in Silicon Valley/San Francisco.

“Rob brings a new dimension to our London CFI team and his skillset gives us access to high-end compensation and benefits advice that will serve our clients to the highest standards across numerous sectors and on a cross-border basis,” commented Tom Sprange QC, office managing partner in London. “Rob is the fifth new partner to join our London office in the past year and is part of our ongoing commitment to grow in the City across all practices by attracting top talent.”

Marshall follows other recent CFI hires in London, including finance partner Benoit Lavigne in June and finance counsel Andrew Brown, who joined from Skadden in August. Earlier in the year, the office also added construction dispute resolution partners Vincent Rowan and Shareena Edmonds and preeminent litigator, Ben Emmerson QC, joined in November 2020.

“The GHCC team has hit the ground running which, combined with King & Spalding’s ambitious expansion strategy, makes for exciting opportunities ahead,” Marshall added. “The growing London office, my strong links to Silicon Valley and the wider GHCC team creates an axis with colleagues in the US, which is an ideal fit for my practice.”
