Intellectual Property Litigators Paul Fakler and Jacob Ebin Join King & Spalding in New York

NEW YORK, January 16, 2026 – King & Spalding announced today that Paul Fakler and Jacob Ebin have joined the firm’s Business Litigation practice group as partners. They are based in the New York office.

Fakler focuses his practice on intellectual property matters in the music, motion picture and technology industries. His experience spans a broad range of issues, including copyright matters related to AI and machine learning, music licensing and copyright royalty rate litigation, royalty audits and payment disputes, high-stakes copyright infringement disputes, and fair use; the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DCMA) and related safe harbor provisions; copyright policy matters; and government affairs. He has litigated numerous high-profile cases involving issues related to digital media, copyright, and has extensive first-chair experience before the Copyright Royalty Board and other royalty rate setting venues.

Ebin advises clients on copyright, antitrust, and other complex litigation matters. He has represented public and private companies in a range of industries, with a particular concentration in the music industry. Ebin has worked on several high-profile disputes that have shaped music rate-setting law and tried four separate cases before the Copyright Royalty Board. He has also been actively involved in representing clients before the U.S. Department of Justice as part of its recurring reviews of the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP) and Broadcast Music Inc. (BMI) Consent Decrees.

“Paul and Jacob are highly regarded as some of the top technology, media, and entertainment litigators in the country, and their specific focus on copyright and software matters is an area where our clients’ needs are rapidly growing and will continue to with the explosion of AI,” said Damien Marshall, co-leader of the firm’s Business Litigation practice group. “Having Paul and Jacob on board adds additional growth and depth to King & Spalding’s nationally recognized copyright infringement and rate setting practice in the entertainment industry.”

Fakler and Ebin join King & Spalding from Mayer Brown, where they were partners. Fakler earned his J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center, cum laude, and his B.A. from the University of Florida, with honors. Ebin earned his J.D. from Fordham University School of Law, cum laude, and his B.A. from Brandeis University, cum laude.

“We’ve worked alongside King & Spalding lawyers on significant cases with industry-wide impact, including copyright infringement and rate setting litigations, and we are thrilled to now be joining this impressive team,” said Fakler.  “King & Spalding provides the platform we need to continue to grow our practice for the long term in today’s environment of fast-paced technological advances and the increase in litigation that goes along with that.”
