Atlanta Magazine Honors King & Spalding Partner Merritt McAlister as a ‘Woman Making a Mark’

ATLANTA, June 12, 2015 — Atlanta Magazine has named King & Spalding National Appellate and Strategic Counsel partner Merritt McAlister to its annual list of "Women Making a Mark." A profile of McAlister, as well as a video interview, were published by the magazine this month.

The profile details McAlister’s lifelong interest in law, from her days as the only female member of her high school’s mock trial team to becoming a law firm partner at the age of 35. These days, the article notes, “the former Supreme Court law clerk spends her days appealing cases that oftentimes advance the civil rights of abused prisoners, the LGBT community, or discriminated employees. She also takes on pro bono cases and mentors minority junior lawyers.” McAlister is president of the Stonewall Bar Association of Georgia and has devoted more than 1,100 hours of pro bono representation since 2010.

The Women Making A Mark program recognizes and celebrates women who are positively shaping the city of Atlanta. “These honorees are fighting cancer, protecting our environment, working for justice, and teaching the next generation of leaders,” according to the magazine, which held a luncheon for honorees today at the Mandarin Hotel in Atlanta.
