Antitrust Partner John Carroll Returns to King & Spalding in Washington, D.C.

WASHINGTON, D.C. November 17, 2025 – King & Spalding announced today that antitrust lawyer John Carroll has rejoined the firm’s Antitrust practice as a partner. He is based in the firm’s Washington, D.C. office.

Carroll’s practice focuses on civil and criminal antitrust matters, including mergers and acquisitions, strategic counseling and compliance, and global cartel investigations. He has significant experience guiding complex deals and investigations through the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the Department of Justice and State Attorneys General review, as well as assisting clients through Hart-Scott-Rodino Act clearance and “second request” merger investigations. His experience includes antitrust work across the healthcare, consumer retail and industrials sectors.

“John is well known here as a partner who is ambitious, energetic and entrepreneurial and will be a ‘first call’ antitrust advisor for clients undergoing strategic transactions,” said Keith Townsend, co-leader of the firm’s Corporate practice group. “John has a demonstrated track record of collaboration and client service excellence and a strong industry reputation that will be critical as we continue to build our destination antitrust practice for sophisticated clients across multiple industries.”

Carroll returns to King & Spalding from Sheppard Mullin, where he was a partner and led the Healthcare Antitrust team. Prior to joining Sheppard Mullin in 2021, Carroll practiced at King & Spalding for 11 years. Prior to private practice, he served in the FTC’s Bureau of Competition for several years, investigating, challenging and negotiating settlements in potentially anti-competitive business combinations. He received his J.D. from The George Washington University School of Law and his B.A from the University of Michigan.

“I am pleased to return to King & Spalding, where I know first-hand the culture, client base, and growing platform will allow me to further expand my practice and contribute to the firm’s continuing growth in antitrust, M&A and healthcare,” said Carroll.
