William Charnley advises private equity sponsors, investment firms, financial institutions, public companies, family offices and entrepreneurs on complex domestic and cross-border transactions, strategic investments, joint ventures, corporate restructurings and governance matters.

With more than three decades of experience, William has advised on acquisitions, disposals, mergers, IPOs, secondary fundraisings, strategic investments and private equity transactions across Europe, the Middle East, Asia and North America. His practice is particularly focused on matters involving financial services, insurance, technology, telecommunications, energy and infrastructure. He regularly acts on transactions involving regulated businesses and advises boards, shareholders and senior management teams on governance and strategic decision-making.

William's clients value his combination of technical excellence, commercial judgement and practical problem-solving. He is frequently engaged on high-value, business-critical transactions requiring careful stakeholder management, complex structuring and execution across multiple jurisdictions. In addition to transactional work, he acts as a trusted adviser to founders, family offices and high-net-worth investors on corporate strategy, succession planning, investment structures and governance matters.

Before joining King & Spalding, William held senior leadership positions at a number of international law firms, including serving as managing partner, senior partner and head of corporate practices. His experience provides clients with a distinctive understanding of board dynamics, governance and long-term business strategy.
