• Lead counsel for Anthony Levandowski a landmark autonomous-vehicle trade secret, patent, and employee mobility case. This matter involved multiple lawsuits, bankruptcy proceedings, and a criminal prosecution.

Facebook, Inc. v. ConnectU, Inc.; ConnectU LLC v. Zuckerberg

• Lead counsel for Mark Zuckerberg and Facebook in a high-profile trade secrets and business tort dispute related to the founding of Facebook. This matter involved numerous lawsuits and appeals to both the First Circuit and Ninth Circuits.

Metabyte, Inc. v. NVIDIA Corp.

• Lead counsel in an employee mobility matter. Defeated claims alleging theft of proprietary software code by former employees.

Canopy Labs v. Commure

• Lead counsel for Canopy Labs and secured preliminary injunction for unauthorized use of trade secrets by Commure and ending sales and distribution of Commure’s competing product line.

Seed Beauty v. Kylie Cosmetics, KKW and Coty, Inc.

• Lead counsel for Seed Beauty in an enjoined corporate transaction due to KKW and Kylie Cosmetic’s unauthorized use of trade secrets.
• Guillory v. Kyle Vogt and Cruise Automation
• Lead counsel for Kyle Vogt and Cruise Automation in a trade secrets and founders dispute wherein the plaintiff claimed 50% ownership of Cruise Automation during a billion-dollar transaction with General Motors.

M.A. Mobile v. Indian Institute of Technology-Kharagpur

• Lead counsel in a global trade secrets dispute reported as the longest running trade secrets dispute in American history. Successfully disposed of the case on summary judgment, as well as sovereign immunity grounds

Synopsys, Inc. v. Mentor Graphics Corporation

• Lead counsel on multi-jurisdictional dispute related to chip emulation tools. The case involved five separate matters of first impression, including matters related to patentable subject matter and the PTAB’s authority under the America Invents Act.

Alphonso Inc. v. Free Stream Media Corp.

• Lead counsel for Alphonso in a multi-patent, multi-jurisdictional dispute related to Internet Advertising technologies.

Rambus, Inc. v. NVIDIA Corp.

• Lead counsel for NVIDIA in multiple high-profile patent and antitrust disputes in the International Trade Commission and Federal District Courts associated with Rambus’ controversial patent licensing and litigation campaign.

Netgear, Inc. v. Ruckus Wireless, Inc.

• Lead counsel taking over the case shortly before trial and prevailing at trial in this four-patent case related to access points for wireless transmissions.

MobileIron v. Good Technology

• Prevailed at trial as lead counsel for MobileIron in a multi-patent and Lanham Act dispute related to mobile device management technology.
• JBF Interlude Ltd. V. Quibi Holdings.
• Lead counsel in patent and trade secrets dispute for JBF Interlude (also known as “Eko”) associated with groundbreaking video technology used in smartphones.

Dynetix Design Solutions v. Synopsys

• Lead counsel for Synopsys in computer chip design software. Case ended day before trial after the court excluded the plaintiff’s damages expert on Daubert grounds.

Fotomedia Technologies, LLC. V. AOL, LLC.

• Lead counsel for Fox Interactive Media and Photobucket in multi-patent dispute in the Eastern District of Texas. After asserting novel antitrust counterclaim, the case settled on terms very favorable to client.

Network Caching Technologies v. Inktomi, et. Al.

• Lead counsel for Inktomi in a multi-patent dispute related to proxy caching and content delivery technologies. Obtained first ruling of its kind applying Patent Local Rules and associated duties of reasonable investigation.

Commercial Disputes

• Lead counsel for a high-profile startup in arbitration proceedings related to microLED technology development agreement where the startup prevailed against a multi-billion-dollar company.
• Lead counsel for an international food company in corporate fraud arbitration where client proved fraud and was awarded substantial damages.

Facebook, Inc. v. Power Ventures, Inc.

• Lead counsel for Facebook and established controlling Ninth Circuit authority under the CFAA and California law by confirming liability for “without authorization” access following express revocation, with subsequent affirmance and post-judgment enforcement proceedings.

Inxight v. Verity

• Lead counsel for Inxight in complex technology licensing and development agreement related to natural language search technology and prevailed at trial.

Oracle v. Druglogic

• Lead counsel for Oracle in a patent and commercial dispute associated with pharmacovigilance technology.
• Lead counsel for a pharmaceutical company in an arbitration dispute related to licensing of another entity. The case involved multiple disputes ranging from license issues to patent ownership to corporate governance. Client was successful in arbitration.

Butler v. Adoption.com

• Lead counsel for plaintiffs in groundbreaking pro bono case related to Internet jurisdiction, venue and liability associated with discriminatory practices against same-sex couples.

Microsoft v. RedOrbit

• Lead counsel for Microsoft asserting first-impression claims combatting click-laundering techniques used to engage in internet advertising fraud.

eBay

• Worked closely with eBay to develop the first-ever ground rules for safety and security of platforms including framing guidance for what could and could not be sold through the eBay platform. Defended eBay in numerous matters associated with platform liability.

Facebook

• Worked closely with Facebook during first three years to develop the framework for third party access to platform. Defended Meta in numerous matters associated with platform liability.

Facebook, LinkedIn and eBay

• Led efforts by Facebook, LinkedIn, and eBay to manage and stop unauthorized computer intrusions and data scraping activities.

Lucasfilm

• Developed groundbreaking and first-of-its-kind online antipiracy campaign for Lucasfilm associated with Episode 1: The Phantom Menace. The campaign served as the model for future online antipiracy campaigns across the film industry.

Law Foundation of Silicon Valley v. City of Gilroy

• Lead counsel for Law Foundation of Silicon Valley at trial court through California Supreme Court on groundbreaking matter related to the scope of duties under the California Public Records Act.

In re Marriage of Kumar

• Lead counsel for spouses resulting in first impression decision allowing a spouse to enforce I-864 requirement that opposing spouse provide support at or above the poverty level.

Voodoo SAS v. SayGames

• Represented Voodoo SAS as lead counsel in a copyright and trade dress dispute involving allegedly copied mobile games distributed via global app stores.

HungerStation v. SayGames

• Lead counsel for HungerStation in complex global dispute related to misappropriation of trade secrets, and theft of source code for competing food-delivery apps.

Facebook v. StudiVZ

• Lead counsel for Facebook in a global dispute related to theft of Facebook’s graphical user interface.
