Bio

Mathan has extensive experience advising banks and fund managers regarding cross-border debt financing solutions and structures involving various types of investment funds, including private equity secondary, real estate, credit and fund of funds.

Mathan’s experience spans the entire range of fund finance products (including capital call lines, NAV facilities, hybrid facilities, GP and executive support facilities and secondary leverage products) provided via a number of different structures, including framework and umbrella facilities. He has advised on some of the largest European fund finance transactions to date.

Mathan is recognized by Chambers UK as an Up-and-Coming practitioner for Banking & Finance: Fund Finance. Mathan also is featured as a key lawyer in Legal500 UK and recognized for “his role in market-leading European financings, and broader role promoting diversity within the firm."

Prior to joining King & Spalding, Mathan was legal counsel to the Investec Fund Finance team in London (while also providing legal support to Investec’s South African and New York fund finance teams). Before that he was an associate in Dentons’ London office, where he specialised in fund finance for over five years (including a secondment to the fund finance team of Lloyds Bank plc in London). He co-authored a chapter in Fund Finance 2018 (Global Legal Insights).

Mathan graduated from the University of Leeds with LL.B (Hons). He is admitted to practice in England and Wales.
