His practice focuses on devising innovative legal issues strategy across complex litigation dockets and defending cases with large punitive damages exposure and reputational risks. He helps clients craft novel defenses in cases involving product recalls, consumer protection statutes, warranty claims, catastrophic injuries, and false advertising allegations. He has substantial experience litigating jurisdictional and procedural issues, standing, choice of law, federal preemption, and other threshold questions that often shape the trajectory of a case. He has represented clients in more than a hundred putative class actions.
Madison is a frequent author and speaker on class actions, complex litigation, and product liability. For the last decade, he has served as Co-Editor of Product Regulation and Liability, a treatise published by Lexology that analyzes the landscape of product liability law in more than a dozen countries. Additionally, he has written chapters in numerous practitioner treatises, including the ABA’s Business & Commercial Litigation in the Federal Courts (4th ed.) and Drug and Device Product Liability Litigation Strategy (2d ed.). He has also served as Editor-in-Chief of King & Spalding's class action newsletter, Predominant Issues.
Madison graduated from Duke University, magna cum laude, in 2004 with a B.A. in Economics. He earned his J.D. from Harvard Law School, with honors, in 2010. While in law school, Madison served as Chief Articles Editor for the Harvard Journal of Law & Public Policy and was a semifinalist in Harvard’s Ames Moot Court competition. After law school, he clerked for the Honorable Frank M. Hull of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit.
