Julia Richardson counsels corporate and organizational clients on complex federal policy, legislative, and regulatory matters. Drawing on over two decades of experience across government and the private sector, Julia develops and executes sophisticated advocacy strategies that connect clients’ policy priorities with their broader business objectives. Her work encompasses congressional and executive branch engagement, coalition building, and third-party and stakeholder strategies designed to broaden support and advance client priorities in Washington.

Before joining King & Spalding, Julia spent six years leading advocacy for a national behavioral healthcare trade association, where she advised senior executives on federal policy and political strategy, directed legislative advocacy, and led stakeholder and political engagement initiatives. Earlier in her career, she served in senior legal and government affairs roles across the federal government and Congress, including as Senior Counsel to the U.S. Senate Committee on Rules and Administration, Director of the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission’s Office of Legislative Affairs, and tenures as counsel and policy advisor to the Chair of the CPSC and of the Federal Election Commission. She began her government career in the Florida Legislature.

Julia’s experience gives her a practical understanding of how policy is shaped both inside and outside government. She helps clients anticipate developments, identify opportunities and challenges, build influential partnerships, and translate complex political and policy dynamics into actionable advocacy strategies. Julia earned her J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center and her B.A., cum laude, from the University of Florida. She is admitted to practice law in the District of Columbia and Florida and serves on the boards of the Women’s Congressional Staff Foundation and the National Safe Place Network
