Ilana Saltzbart

Ilana Saltzbart focuses on environmental law and litigation. As a partner in our Environmental practice, Ilana defends companies in governmental investigations or enforcement actions regarding environmental issues.

Ilana represents clients in investigations and enforcement actions initiated by the Environmental Protection Agency, the Department of Justice, and state environmental agencies such as the California Air Resources Board. She also counsels clients on environmental regulatory matters.

Before entering private practice in 2011, Ilana spent a decade as an attorney at EPA’s headquarters in Washington, D.C. In her tenure at EPA, Ilana was involved in the enforcement of several environmental laws, including the Clean Air Act, the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, and the Toxic Substances Control Act, among others.

Ilana litigated and settled some of the most high-profile matters at EPA, including a Toxic Substances Control Act enforcement action under Section 8(e) against a major chemical manufacturer. From 2006 to 2011, Ilana managed EPA’s Clean Air Act national enforcement initiative for the electric power generation sector. This initiative addresses New Source Review compliance, among other Clean Air Act requirements, and facilitated Ilana’s extensive understanding and knowledge of the Clean Air Act. In this role, Ilana settled several landmark cases, most notably with the Tennessee Valley Authority and American Electric Power.

As part of her specialization in environmental law, Ilana received a Certificate in Environmental and Natural Resources Law from Lewis & Clark Law School in 2001.

In 2015 and 2016, Ilana received recognition for environmental law in the Legal 500 U.S. guide.
