Dirk Lasater manages an active practice helping clients identify, manage, and leverage technology and intellectual property assets. He counsels on an array of strategic transactions, including key technology procurement, IP acquisition and divestiture, mission-critical sourcing, joint venture, and distribution deals. As a former intellectual property and commercial litigator, Dirk brings a broad and unique perspective to negotiating complex agreements and managing and identifying risks associated with transformational deals.
Dirk advises companies at every stage of growth, from high growth startups to the largest public companies, on complex transactions that often require navigation of the overlap among technology, data, IP and operational capacity and strategy.
Dirk counsels clients in structuring and negotiating complex technology deals of all kinds, including those related to technology development, SaaS, platform, hosting and terms of service arrangements; e-commerce and web-focused transactions; and all types of commercial transactions. His clients operate across sectors and industries, including artificial intelligence and machine learning, digital infrastructure and data centers, financial services and fintech, cybersecurity, e-commerce, logistics, robotics, and healthcare.
In addition to his technology transactions practice, Dirk guides multinational companies through complex sourcing and procurement transactions affecting mission-critical business processes, from RFP development and bid analysis through vendor downselection, consolidation and final negotiation of services and supply agreements. Dirk also advises companies often on the IP aspects of M&A transactions.
Dirk’s pro bono efforts have included representing numerous nonprofit arts, cultural, and standards organizations in intellectual property and commercial matters, immigration and asylum petitions, military service members in guardianship proceedings and consumers alleging fraudulent business practices. He serves on the Board of the Wake Forest Journal of Business & Intellectual Property Law.
